It's nearly the fourth here, which means soon we'll be hearing firecrackers and bottlerockets almost nonstop for three days.

Am I the only one who has come to the sad conclusion that such holidays just aren't as fun as they used to be?
I've always hated loud noises and bright lights (the essense of a night spent watching fireworks,) but being together with family and friends, doing what we do every year, was so special to me before.
It's been feeling emptier every time one comes by.
